Distressing Karvala newspaper article

I somehow found access to some old Finnish newspapers from a Swede Finn website. Everything I seem to find is nothing but sad news about my family and the villages they were from - the typhus outbreak/famine of 1866-68, the auction of the Anttila homestead but the worst is what I found on this link. Three Karvala family members stoned a young man to death after an argument.
I am trying to figure out how/if these Karvala’s are related to me. I have looked through the Communion records but the only farmer Matts Karvala I can find (other than my great-great grandfather Matts Thomassson Karvala born in 1824 - #187 ) is a Matts Karvala on farm #182 but he continues receiving Communion so he is not in jail. And I found two Matts Jacobsson Karvala’s on #183 and #189 but again one gets married (he does have a black book notation in the comments column) and the other #189 keeps receiving Communion so neither of them are in jail.

If I could figure out who they are in the Communion Books, I could try to figure out if they are related to me.

I am also a descendent of the Ylitalo family which makes this story even more distressing.

The only online Korsholm’s court records I could find are the probate from 1806-1809.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you,
Lynette

I believe you got Matts Jacobsson Karvala on #183 right.
The other one seems to be Matts Mattsson Karvala b. 31 Oct 1850 on #188. He has profession landthandlande, as in newspaper article. Also the black book notation. In Geni: https://www.geni.com/people/Matti-Alppi ... 6658239995

Thank you for the information.
It doesn’t seem that my family was closely related to them. Thank goodness. But they were neighbors.
What an awful way to die!
What I can’t understand is why these three men did not spend the rest of their lives in jail. I have a relative in Sweden who spent two years in jail for theft and another who spent four months in the workhouse for vagrancy.
What do you think would have been their punishment?

I am not sure what I am looking for.
I ended up on the website national.finna.fi and found the archives “Ed:1 Court of Appeal decisions (1843-1898) but I can’t look at anything specific. I am also not sure that this is the correct website.
I looked at other websites but they have recent court archives.

Do you have a link to the correct website?

Thanks you,
Lynette

Another link

https://tuomiokirjat.kansallisarkisto.fi/

There you can search hand-written court records. Try Karvala

Thank you for the links.

The second link took me to the court archives and although the Karvala case was not there, I found a very interesting case concerning other family members.
The archives cover the years 1701-1873 and just my luck, the Karvala case I was looking for occurred in November of 1873 and is not in those archives. :D

Just a thought….. I found a case about a stabbing and it seems the court was more interested in imposing a large fine instead of jail time. So perhaps that is the same for this case.
