Jacob Ruthi death entry translation of Gla Bonden

Could a translation of the wording Gla Bonden for a death record be done. Does it mean farmers son or senior farmer?

Gamla Bonden means Old Farmer. Usually means that his son (or son-in-law) took care of the farm, but the old farmer still lived on the farm.
