Could you please translate Hivutauti. I believe tauti could mean disease. I had a 19 year old ancestor that showed that word as his cause of death.

Most likely the disease was HIVUTUSTAUTI, actually. Alternative it was called hivennös. Both are Finnish terms.
The Swedish name is tvinsot.
All are descriptive layman's terms telling that the person has "withered", i.e. lost strength and weight etc.
Retrospectively it has been concluded that tubertulosis was the real cause of death in most such cases.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I'll have to add that to my list of causes that I could not find. I can not help but wonder if perhaps he had cancer as in that disease the person usually loses a lot of weight , but then at the end they suffer from edema or pnuemonia liki symptoms. What ever happened to this young 19 year old teenage boy Hivutauti certainly could e descriptive of what happened to him.
