Cause of death: Tärandes
Cause of death: Tärandes
Hello,
Above is a cause of death I found in a Hiski record. I used a translator for the word and it came out as Lingering. Can you shed any additional meaning to the word. A lingering death could be anything.
Below is a copy of Hiski record.
Paltamo

Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
Tärande sjukdom is translated wasting desease. It could be tbc, cancer or some combination of various symptoms.
Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
Thank you Marjatellervo for your reply. I can see where tbc or cancer would be a long and lingering disease.
Your help is appreciated.

Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
There seems to be some confusion on the death of Juho Mäkäräinen as shown in the Hiski record above. It shows he died 28 Dec 1768 and was buried 01 Jan 1770 yet the link to the communion book shows he died 28 Dec 1768 which would put his burial just over a year later. What date should I use for the death?
Thank You

Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
The Hiski dates are wrong. Johan is in the 1769 buried (in the original) with the burial date 1/15. Because of the way the book is set up, the death date (12/28) is in the 7th column and whoever did the original transcription took that to mean that he died in 1769 (since it's in the 1769 list) and was buried in 1770. When in fact he died in 1768 and was buried 1769. Here's the original record (first on the right page):

Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
There seems to be some confusion with the book of the dead and buried itself. Year 1769 starts again in the midway and Johan is the first one of the page... I would say that he was buried in 1769 and died 1768 like the communion book says and since there is no year mentioned on either of the dates I would say the year 1769 on top of the page is for the burial.

Re: Cause of death: Tärandes
Thank all of you for your help and advice. Poor Johan, little did people realize that 245 years later people would be questioning their entries for accuracy.
Thanks again, I can now put Johan to rest. Did I just say that?
