Marriage of Pahl Jurmu and Sigrid
Marriage of Pahl Jurmu and Sigrid
http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/kirjat/ ... 233/14.htm
The above link has an entry for the marriage of Pahl Jurmu and Sigrid. The date is 07 Dec 1781.
The writing is very hard to read and I hope you can translate the entire entry for me. There is an Oct 7th entry and the next one is a Dec 7th (I believe) and that entry shows Pahl Jurmu.
Thank you for your help.
Janice

Re: Marriage of Pahl Jurmu and Sigrid
In reading the text for the marriage of Pahl and Sigrid, it states they were married "without garb".
What does this imply? It was not a big festive wedding but a very simple wedding with simple dress atire.
I can't find a translation for garb.
Thank You

Re: Marriage of Pahl Jurmu and Sigrid
" utan skrud" means that a modest dress, more or less standard carried on Sundays and church services, was used.
"med skrud" means carrying a festival dress that is used in weddings only.
I took skrud into SAOB which is very good dictionary explaining old Swedish words (in other Swedish words), and put the result into a translator engine.
Then with a small corrections it sounds like this in English:
Bridal attire, often with certain insignia or jewelry
This dress was home-made in rural parishes, so do not take "festival dress" to mean something that was used by nobility or bourguisie.
It was made of finest materials available in those circumstances and more than usual time and effort was used to finish it. Definitely silk was not used as too expensive.

Thank you Timotk for explaining the difference between the style of wedding attire. Does this mean that without garb means a simple wedding dress without fine jewelry or does it mean a simple Sunday go to church dress.
